Fasten off

So here's what I've been doing the last few weeks in the world of crochet. Tied up some loose ends and finished Mr. Funky. As you can see, he's chillin' by the window and in my basket of yarn.

I also want to take a moment to say goodbye to yet another crochet needle that perished while finishing the legs of Mr. Funky. I guess I'm just going to have to stop buying plastic needles!
Then I made a towel out of the rest of my cotton yarn in sage and blue care of Lions Brand.
Ohhh, wave patterns make me want to go swimming!
Then I made some washcloths from a pattern on Lions Brand Yarn.
Here's a close up of the stitching that's going on. Just working out of one loop rather than two nothing too fancy.
Still working on the hat for myself. The next few weeks I'll be on the road so not sure how much I'll be getting done but I'm planning on making more wearable items in the near future.

Travel Project

I have about three different projects going on so I decided to toss another one up in the mix and make this cute hate inspired from the movie "Twilight." I'm not into the movie and read the first two books after deciding I just can't relate to whiny, star-crossed lovers anymore.

I will be in France for the next week so I thought this could be an interesting plane/layover project!

Where do all the scarves I make go?

Answer: Apparently they go in a plastic bag on the floor of the coat and shoe closet.  Thanks a lot Michael!  That's the last time I make a scarf for you!

The first one was made with Red Heart yarn.  Michael picked out the type he wanted.  It almost is a kind of self-striping yarn.  He loved this yarn so much in fact that it's on the floor by his stinky shoes of our coat closet (did I already mention that?)

The second scarf here is my favorite.  I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease in grey along with another kind of Lion Brand yarn that I seem to forget the name of but it's in a fuzzy creme color.  The design is by me when I was just a wee crocheter.  Just a bunch of half-double crochets and a color change.  I may just steal this scarf away...

I must admit I am into the Lion Brand Yarn line.  Like I typed in a previous post, I went a little crazy on their Wool-Ease and Jiffy brands.  Still on the search for their Thick & Quick in the color of Walnut.  Oh, and they also have a pod cast which I've been catching up with which is very cool and informative for a hooker like me!

A pain in the stash.

My latest finished project - a stash basket for the bathroom.  This picture is what I ultimately ended up going with in regards to usage of the stash basket.  I was able to fit six hand towels comfortably.  I could probably fit a lot more wash cloths in it too but strange thing, Michael and I own like three wash cloths in the whole house.

I thought about using it as a toilet paper holder but decided the basket didn't look full enough plus we have a nifty little closet that holds all of the tp.

This is a close-up on one of the corners of the basket.  The pattern was easy to follow but I had a hard time seaming the pieces together.  I think mostly because my tension was pretty strong, the needle was too small, and the yarn wasn't very slippery.  I had to stop quite often to stretch my hands and fingers out.

Aerial view of the basket on the inside.  I used Lily Sugar 'N' Cream yarn in sage.  I have a little over two balls left.  Perhaps I will whip up another reusable grocery bag.  Hmmm...  Or maybe a smaller version of the stash basket.

Summer to do list!

So, the plan this summer is to, not only travel and relax but, to start crocheting my buns off because I've been complaining about lack of time during the school year.  With the whole summer off, I have constructed a schedule that I hope to follow when I'm not traveling.  Tell me what you think:

Summer Crochet Schedule:
  • Spend 1 hour researching crochet on the world wide web
  • Spend 1 hour studying or reading pattern books I currently have
  • Spend 1-2 hours experimenting with new stitches
  • Spend 2-3 hours crocheting a major project
I figure at this rate, if I'm on a schedule I will get more done and posting it will help me stick to it!

More Sacs

Reusable grocery bag is finished!  Crocheted it will Lily Sugar 'N Creme light blue cotton yarn.
A close up of the handle.  I made more rows than the green one I made before.
The bag may look small but the cotton gives it a good stretch that makes lugging fruits and veggies easy.

Stop and go

Currently, I am waiting for yarn to come in from Amazon to finish my stash baskets.  I'm so sick of the yarn selection at Michael's and Joann's but the local yarn stores are too expensive!  Alas, what's a hooker to do?  While waiting for the yarn, I have started my reusable grocery bag.  I am super excited.  The blue cotton yarn is looking to be a good choice!  I know, I know... you are all on the edge of your seats!

Zut!

Zut! = darn it! (as the French would say)

I was happily crocheting along and totally trusting my pattern which told me I would only need one skein of Lily Sugar N Creme sage colored yarn when not even half way through, I realized I needed two, possibly three. Time to search the internet. Hope I can find something!
