Ravellenic Games 2012

Now that Tour de Fleece is over (I managed to spin during baby nap time - more on that later), on to the next fiber event, the Ravellenic Games!  This coincides with the Olympic games.  I've never participated in this before but my friend Angela got me all sorts of excited that I started joining events like a crazy person.  Basically, how this works is that you are on a team (not necessary, I'm flying solo!) and you participate in events that you're interested in that have to do with whatever project you want to start, finish, continue working on, or straight up frog!

The events that I joined are:
  • Cowl Jump - I'll be making a cowl for a dear friend's birthday that is coming up
  • WIP Wrestling - I have two works in progress that I just want to finish already
  • Charity Rowing - I will be making a pair of mittens
It was very addictive joining all these events.   At one point I realized, um, you have a new baby hanging around the house and an energetic toddler.  How can I possibly get this all done?  We shall soon see!

A nod to some fellow bloggers

Recently, my friend Denise, gave me this award:

Thank you, Denise! :-)
Part of accepting this award is to tell everyone 7 as-yet-unknown things about oneself. So here ya go, a few tidbits about yours truly:

1.  I've driven across country and back with my husband.  What a crazy honeymoon that was!

2.  I studied abroad in Quebec City and Montreal.
3.  I’m such a beer and music snob.
4.  I enjoy bumming around the house.
5. NYC is my favorite place to visit.
6. I cannot carry a tune to save my life.
7. I also cannot whistle (this continues to shock my husband).

Also, part of this deal is to pass on this award to 7 other bloggers.  I'm afraid I haven't been keeping up with most of the blogs I follow as of late but here are the people I would give this award to:
Congrats, ladies!

Hanks, gifts and goodies

A little late, but as promised the glamor shot of May's fiber.  This was four ounces of merino in the color way of Sunflowers that I got from Clover Leaf Farms.  I did a two ply on my spindle and ended up with 128 yards of worsted weight yarn.  I tried to spin it up thinner than I usually do and was very pleased with the outcome.  Last I knew, Michael wanted me to make him a hat with this hank so that is probably what will become of it.

For June, I decided to spin up some wool from Spinner's Hill that I got at my favorite lys.   I, again, did a two ply and ended up with 146 yards of worsted weight yarn.  I hear that the more experience you have spinning, you spin finer and that seems to be what's happening to me.  From the picture the singles look thin and thick but the WPI does not lie!  I'm not sure what I'll be making with this but I'll be doing research on that when I find a moment.  I was thinking of a hat or mittens.  The color changes are going to be wicked cool, me thinks.  Since this didn't have a name for the color, and going with my Beatles theme for unnamed fiber, I have dubbed this hank, Lovely Rita.  I need not explain why.

The next part of this post has pictures of some great baby gifts that I received from fellow Ravelers  with whom I am in a reading group.  My friend Denise, coordinated a care package to be sent to me and the baby.  Angelo and I received gifts from all over the world including Germany, Canada, and even Estonia!

Yarn to make this

2 hanks of Noro yarn - Ang won't mind if I use it...

Soft, little book and body butter straight from Germany

Tea and booties from Estonia!

Lovely blanket, sweater and booties from an even lovelier friend
Thank you again for the thoughtful gifts.  I was definitely moved and thankful that Ravelry has me connected with such kind people.

Tour de Fleece

I finished plying my June fiber and started the Corriedale last night.  So far, I am not a fan of how the fiber feels but I do like how easily it drafts.  Details forthcoming about the above fiber along with May's spin too!

What it looked like in the beginning - just needs to be plyed
